It's way more complex than you think.
Over thousands of years of living together, humans and dogs have forged an inseparable bond. It's unconditional love that bonds them together. I'm enveloped by dog love, myself and am still not able to get an answer as to why people love dogs? The reason, I'm writing this is to find an answer as to why humans love dogs?
Let me just tell you'll about an instance which i read sometime ago, which illustrates human love for dogs.
Emma,an occupational surgeon in Boston who had been looking for her Mr. right for nearly 10 years. She had finally thought that she had found one in John a nice and funny guy who is a football coach in a high school.
They had been dating for several months together and just when everything was going on well and just as there was talk about a future, it occurred to Emma that John hadn't really bonded with her Black Lab Retriever, Shinghalana.
She talked to him about this one night at dinner, and he confessed,in some laughter, that he dint love Shinghalana, didn't love dogs in general, never had.
They broke up the next week. More accurately she dumped him. This is what Emma had to say Shinghalana has been there for me, day in and day out, for years. I can't say the same of men. She's my girl, my baby. Sooner or later, it would have ended."
The lesson Emma learned is that she should have asked John about Shinghalana first not last, that's what she said.
This totally explains how much love humans have for their pet dogs.
According to studies, people possessing love for dogs and other pets "poses a problem,". But true studies show being attached to animals is not, strictly speaking,
necessary for human health and welfare. True, studies show that people with pets live a bit longer and have better blood pressure than benighted non owners, but in the literal sense, we don't really need all those dogs and cats to survive.
But according to Darwinian theory: Pets manipulate the same instincts and responses that have evolved to facilitate human relationships, "primarily (but not exclusively) those between parent and child."
No wonder Emma ditched John. She was about to marry the evil stepfather, somebody who wasn't crazy about her true child.
The theory also suggests, "consider the possibility that pets are, in evolutionary terms, manipulating human responses, that they are the equivalent of social parasites." Social parasites inject themselves into the social systems of other species and thrive there. Dogs are masters at that. They show a range of emotions—love, anxiety, curiosity—and thus trick us into thinking they possess the full range of human feelings.
Psychologist have also studied the human-animal bond and reports that dogs are astonishingly skilled at reading humans' patterns of social behavior, especially behaviors related to food and care. They figure out our moods and what makes us happy, what moves us. Then they act accordingly, and we tell ourselves that they're crazy about us.
"It appears that dogs have evolved specialized skills for reading human social and communicative behavior," which is why dogs live so much better than any other animals with human.Dogs have figured out how to fit themselves into human society in ways that benefit us both. We get affection and attention. They get the same, plus food, shelter, and protection. To grasp this exchange doesn't trivialize our love, it explains it.
Trooper, my pet dog, is curled into a ball lying on the ground right beside me on my left as i write this article. He's spent 3 years with me as he turned 3 this Feb.
He likes to be near the kitchen all the time as he loves to eat. He has the appealing characteristic of being unable to speak, thus we are free to to fill in the blanks with what we need to hear. What the dog may really be telling us, much of the time, is, "Feed me." :) that's what i feel :)
He dances with joy wen i come home after being out for a while, puts his head on my knees and stares longingly with his pouting eyes into my eyes, with love, affection, loyalty, curiosity and anxiety. At last we realise the love and loyalty we so richly deserve but so rarely receive.
When i go make coffee, answer the door, stretch my legs, talk on the phone he moves with me. when i sit on the computer he resumes his old position siting right in front of the main door guarding, waiting to pounce fiercely on any stranger who may cause harm, waiting desperately for instructions.
This is the unexplained, inseparable love that humans and dogs share for each other. The first thing you see when you get up in the morning is your pet waiting happily as ever just to greet you,the first thing in the day the love and the feeling you get when you experience such a thing is what I'm unable to describe in words.
But i would also like to say the he wouldn't bare me out of his sight.
That is a very well written piece. It shows that you are very good at researching and then using information to put forward your own views. Quite impressive. Keep writing.!
